  • Play games (up to $110 each)
  • Test apps (up to $150 each)
  • Submit receipts (easy cash)
  • Shop at your favorite stores (up to 10% back)
  • Answer surveys and polls (quick cash in minutes!)

It’s never too early to start teaching your kids about money. They need to know its importance, how they can save it, and how to responsibly spend it. Cash App has made it possible to teach kids and teens these exact lessons by incorporating new features for minors.

While it’s important to teach kids responsibility, it’s also important to monitor your teen until they are old enough to handle their finances independently. Cash App has recently released this availability to minors with adult supervision tools.

Help your child learn a valuable life lesson and be there to guide them along the way. Set them up with an allowance and let them take the reins a bit in their independence by allowing them to use the money how they deem fit.

If you or your child is new to Cash App, sign up for free and get a cash bonus just for using a Cash App free money code. Cash App is not only about spending money, but also about finding ways to make your money work for you and your future.

How to Use Cash App Under 18

The first thing to know is that an independent Cash App account cannot be held solely by a minor. The main account holder must be at least 18 years old to establish the account. However, the new Cash App authorized user account can be used by minors with permission from a parent or guardian. This is the only legal way to use Cash App for teenagers under 18.

Step 1: Download Cash App

As a parent, you must be the first person to download and set up Cash App on your phone, tablet, or laptop.

New Cash App users can get a cash bonus for entering a Cash App referral code.

Step 2: Connect a Bank Account

It’s possible to use Cash App without connecting your bank account, but doing so will limit the functionality of the app. The easiest way to link your account is to grab your debit card and type in the card number. You will only need to do this one time, and you can delete your card from the app at any time.

Step 3: Have Your Child(ren) Download the App

Minors can download Cash App here and request approval from a parent or guardian through the app. Each new child can get a cash bonus for using code NMXPRV7. To activate the bonus in all new user accounts, make sure to send $5 to and from each account. You can even bounce the same $5 between each person until the cash bonuses are activated all around.

Step 4: Have Your Child Design and Order a Free Cash Card

The Cash App Card for kids is one of the top reasons to use the app. It works like a prepaid debit card and all transactions can be tracked by the parent’s account. Each child can design a unique Cash App Card and place an order for a free card to arrive in the mail.

If your child enters the code NMXPRV7, their account will be credited with $5 in bonus cash when they use their Cash App Card for the first time.

What is Cash App for Minors and How Does It Work

mom and teen setting up a Cash App account

Cash App for kids is a free feature on the already popular app. It is for minors aged 13 to 17 and is currently only available in the US. Cash App understands the importance of parental involvement when it comes to finances for a young person. To keep them safe, a parent or guardian must approve a request from a minor to use a Cash App account as an authorized user.

Once the request is approved, the parent or guardian can load the Cash Card with money and track all activity on the account through statements. Additionally, a parent or guardian can close or pause the account at any time by contacting Cash App support.

Safety Measures

As a safety measure, Cash App for kids has set limitations on features minors can use, how much money they can transfer within a certain time frame, and how much control the parent/guardian actually has on the account.

You can also keep the account safe by setting up a PIN, turning on notifications, and setting limitations on money requests to contacts only.

Send/Receive Money From Friends and Family

Your teen will have access to send and receive money from friends and family up to $1,000 every 30 days. The limit is in place to ensure that no overspending occurs, and it teaches children to budget. You can additionally limit how much your kids are able to spend on your end if you do not wish to allow them to reach the $1,000 limit.

Cash Card and ATM Withdrawals

Teens can withdraw cash from an ATM with their Cash Cards for a $2 fee. Cash App offers ATM fee reimbursement to users who receive direct deposits of at least $300 to their accounts each month.

Cash App for Kids Features

Cash App has a way of making each user’s account more personalized. The family Cash App features make it even more exciting for kids to want to use their accounts as well.

Choose a Unique $Cashtag

One of the fun parts of creating a Cash App account is making a unique $Cashtag. The $Cashtag is like a username that you can send to others to let them know which account they can send money to. Your teen can create a fun, silly, and creative Cash App name that is special to them.

Design a Custom Card

The custom card is where the real fun starts. Your teen can draw or stamp their own design on their card. There is even an option to make the card glow in the dark. Think of fun designs and help your teen make their card fit their personality. Additionally, they can find some inspiration from others for how to design their card.

Use Instant Cash Boosts

Instant cash Boosts are instant cash savings. Choose from the list of available Boosts on Cash App to apply to your card. The savings are instantly applied as soon as the card is swiped to make a purchase.

Cash App Boosts are like cashback opportunities except you don’t have to wait to see your money applied back into your account a day or two later. The rewards are instant. Whether it’s going to a favorite coffee shop, grabbing fast food, or completing your weekly snack/grocery run, the Cash App Boosts are a great way to get paid to shop.

Banking Options

Cash App is its own banking option. Instead of opening a whole new account at a traditional bank, your teen can use their Cash App access as their own bank. Make transfers to them to keep funds available. The Cash Card also makes it even less important to have a bank account and more convenient to have a Cash App account.

Refer Friends for Free Money

Cash App also features a referral bonus where your teen can make up to $30 per friend they invite to the app. Let them get paid to refer friends which gives them a taste of what it’s like to make their own money. Then they can decide if they’d rather spend or save it.

More Reasons to Use Cash App for Teenagers

If you are looking for even more reasons to choose Cash App for kids, here are a couple more to consider.

Easily Pay Allowance

Send your minor money with Cash App whenever you want. This is a great way to set up a weekly allowance for them to learn to control their funds. They get to choose how they want to spend that money or save it, and you can monitor those choices. Instead of having to go to the bank to withdraw cash for their allowance, just send them money directly through Cash App.

Teach Money Management

It’s important for your teen to recognize that money doesn’t grow on trees. If they want to buy something, they have to make the decision to do so based on how much money they have and what plans they have in the future. They will need to decide if buying that shirt is worth it now or if saving the money to go to summer camp is a better choice.

Direct Deposit Wages

If you have a teen that is working, you have the option to get their paycheck direct deposited to their Cash App account. This will save time rather than having to cash or deposit a paycheck and then make the transfer from a bank account. If the funds are already in their Cash App account, they can then start doing with their money as they please (with your permission, of course).

More Questions Parents Are Asking About Cash App for Teens

If you still have hesitations about allowing your children to use Cash App, consider the following questions that other parents are asking.

How old do you have to be to have Cash App?

Cash App account holders must be at least 18 years old to have an account. Cash App for kids is available to 13- to 17-year-olds as authorized users on an adult’s account.

What happens if you lie about your age on Cash App?

Cash App for Minors Allows Both Minor and Parent to Have Control

Finding ways to teach and protect your kids isn’t an easy thing to do. As parents, some of us tend to want to control things rather than relinquish the power to our children. This isn’t out of our desire to control all things in their life, but more so to ensure they are protected. We don’t want them to fail so if we are the ones in control, they don’t have the chance to do so.

As big or small as it may seem to you to activate Cash App for minors for your own teen, the decision shouldn’t be made lightly. Consider talking with your teen about the importance of money, how to be safe to avoid fraud and scams when using Cash App, and allow them to have some control in their life.

Cash App has made strides to keep minor accounts safe and convenient. Give it a try and see if this option works for you and your family. As a parent, I know you are considering as many options as possible when it comes to your child’s finances. Cash App hasn’t let me down and I know you will find value in it as well.
