When I first started blogging, I thought it was as simple as understanding SEO and implementing it. To be fair, I had plenty of experience in eCommerce SEO and could get people to visit product pages, click “buy now,” pay, and leave.

But blogging turned out to be a much different process. It’s about building trust and engaging readers. Only then will they click on affiliate products or buy your products.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the saying, “just write” when it comes to starting a blog. Composing a blog post the right way does NOT mean you can “just write” and then watch the money roll in!

Writing a blog post is a great way to promote your latest product, service or favorite affiliates when done the right way.

Using my 15 tried and true tips for proper blog writing could mean the difference between your blog’s failure and success!

1. Blog Often

Writing a blog post frequently will increase your blog’s popularity.

Your readers will soon realize that you keep them updated with fresh information. Attention-grabbing posts will engage your readers.

2. Choose a Title that is Clickworthy

You may have created your best blog post yet, only to find that no one is reading it.

Make sure to take a closer look at your blog’s title. Is it calling readers to “click here now”? Is it making a promise that they will not be wasting valuable time?

3. Write for Your Readers

Always write each blog to benefit your readers. If you are writing a personal story, turn it around as a learning tool for your audience.

Writing blogs with your readers in mind ensures that they will stay longer.

If you are writing a blog post for your own amusement, perhaps you should reconsider your goals.

Are you blogging as a hobby or are you blogging to monetize? You can do both, but the reader must be your main focus to monetize.

4. Write for Search Engines

It is as crucial to write for search engines as it is for your readers.

Learn how to SEO (search engine optimization) with these practices that will bring your posts to the top of Google’s search list.

Ensure that each blog has keyword focus that answers a clear question.

Weave relevant keywords into your blog posts to help search engines find you.

Write each post using great SEO practices. Google, Pinterest and other similar search engines will reward you with traffic for your efforts.

5. Share Your Blog Posts on Social Media

Everyone is on social media these days. Why wouldn’t you post your blogs there too?

The more share-worthy your content, the more traffic your blog will get.

Do not underestimate the power of social media when it comes to sharing your content.

If you do not have a Facebook group or page, start there. Twitter, Instagram and Quora are other great platforms to consider.

6. Stay Relevant to Your Audience

Most bloggers will tell you not to venture outside of your niche. I say cater to your audience. As I stated above, keeping your readers engaged takes relevant information to their interests.

Add some variety of course, but still make sure that your audience can relate to each post.

If there are too many topics going on at one time, readers may not know how to find posts that relate to what they like to read.

Staying relevant and consistent to your target audience are keys to a pointed, yet diverse blog.

7. Take Advantage of Guest Post Opportunities

Writing a guest blog post for popular blogs opens new opportunities for you to attract new readers.

When guest blogging, only offer your contributions to other, more popular blogs. Doing so will help establish your site as an authority in your niche as well as being able to diversify to interest any reader.

Make sure to create guest blogs that are relevant to your own blog so that when visitors come by they stick around!

8. Encourage Questions and Comments

Blog comments signify engagement and interest. Be sure to ask questions and encourage your readers to interact with you in the comments section.

Social media is a great place to incite discussion that triggers comments and shares.

Request a response to generate more interest and engagement on your posts. Readers enjoy sharing their own opinions when given the chance, especially when it is encouraged by the blogger.

9. Make Your Content Easy to Skim

There is a wealth of information available on almost any topic you could imagine.

Your site visitors’ time is valuable. Make sure you are writing a blog post that readers can quickly skim and glean value from.

Use bold headings, bullet points, info-graphics and short paragraphs and sentences.

Some readers will read every word while others will skim your content. Both are valuable and each reader learns in his/her own way!

10. Make Your Content Readable

Are you writing for CEOs and Doctors or for other fellow bloggers and friends just like you?

Writing a blog post is not the same as writing a college essay. Your writing should be conversational, valuable and easily relatable.

I highly suggest copy/pasting one of your recent blog posts into the free editor to see where you could improve!

11. Provide High-Quality Content

High-quality content is crucial to attracting and holding reader interest.

You might know a topic inside and out, but if you’re not presenting it in an easy-to-read manner the information will be lost on them.

Only high-quality content that adds value to your readership will stand the test of time.

Your chances of ranking higher in search engines will increase with high-quality content.

12. Use High-Quality Images

If you’re anything like I am, you also enjoy an aesthetically pleasing image to top off a great blog post.

Share great images within your posts. Great images could mean the difference between a new subscriber and a lost visitor.

I like to use Pixabay and Unsplash for free images!

13. Share Trending Topics

Blog posts don’t need to be innovative, they simply need to answer a question.

Try writing a blog post that covers a trending topic from a different perspective.

If a particular subject seems to be popular, writing a blog post about it could bring instant shares!

The more shares, the more traffic heads over to your blog.

14. Pick Up Writing Gigs

This is for the bloggers who are not seeing results fast enough and are tempted to quit. Listen, DON’T QUIT!

If you’re not seeing a return on your time right from the start, it’s OK to pick up writing gigs in the meantime! These gigs will help you build your portfolio and give you valuable experience while you build your own brand.

You can try places like Fiverr or other writing job boards to pick up writing gigs in your spare time.

15. Hire a Virtual Assistant

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to ask for help. There are affordable VA’s that can reduce your stress.

Try Fiverr! You can get an amazing deal for high-quality work. You only pay per task rather than full contract amounts.

Don’t be afraid to search for reasonable help! We all have certain tasks that are better done by contracted aid.

You may find that hiring help will give you time to focus more on the areas that will increase your income!
